Bradford & Airedale Eyesight Trust
(BAET)

Supporting the Eye Departments of both Bradford Teaching Hospital and Airedale Hospital

About Our Charity

BAET is a registered charity, that has been set up to benefit those suffering from eye problems in the Bradford and Airedale area

The charity supports the eye departments of Bradford Teaching Hospital and Airedale Hospital in a number of ways:

  • It provides equipment (not normally provided by the National Health Service) for the diagnosis and treatment of eye diseases in the area

  • It helps with funding and publishing of research into eye diseases

  • It helps fund the provision of visual  aids for the blind and partially sighted.

  • It helps with the education and training of students, Ophthalmologists, Orthoptists, and Optometrists intending to specialise in Ophthalmology.

How we have used the money previously

We are a registered charity, set up to provide support for the eye departments of both Bradford Teaching Hospital and Airedale Foundation Trust. We support by providing additional funds for equipment that otherwise would not be able to be purchased and help with funding training of various members of staff including, nurses, orthoptists and optometrists. To fund the charity we rely on donations from the public as well as arrange various fund raising activities through out the year.

These are some of the many diagnostic and treatment equipment purchased by BAET to date

Equipment Purchased

Training of staff

Funds from the BAET have paid for a number of Eye Clinic staff and non-medical eyecare professionals to undertake enhanced training and qualifications, enabling them to expand the scope of their work and prescribing capabilities within the eye department.

Current projects

At present we are looking to fund a number of projects

Bradford Macula Centre

One of the areas in ophthalmology we are looking to raise funds for is our ever expanding Bradford Macula Centre. The centre is  based in Trinity Road, Bradford - opposite St Luke's Hospital. We are raising funds towards equipment to benefit both patients and visitors attending the centre.
